The BC Lions look to keep things rolling on the road.

And with very little room for error in the tight race for a home playoff date in the competitive West Division, the resurgent squad faces a tough test against the Toronto Argonauts this Saturday in the second and final regular season meeting. Much like a couple of their previous contests, this one is ripe with juicy storylines. With more, we present our 5 Things To Know Game Preview.

Foot On The Gas

They’ve won seven of eight games and are coming off a big statement win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders that gave them control of their own destiny for second place in the West. But don’t expect them to be satisfied yet. Buck Pierce will keep hammering home that there is always room for improvement in all three phases. With the tiebreaker in hand, Pierce’s squad enters this week tied in points with Saskatchewan and two points clear of Winnipeg and Calgary. The first-place Edmonton Elks are the only Western squad that has officially punched their ticket to the Grey Cup Playoffs. The Lions can officially get there with wins in their next two games.

It's Rourke Vs. Arbuckle

The Argonauts listed Nick Arbuckle as their starting quarterback, depriving us of only the second-ever Nathan Rourke and Chad Kelly quarterback matchup. Kelly missed practice time due to a right-hand injury this week. Rourke is coming off two of his best outings of 2026, was named the CFL’s top Player of the Month and is now up to ten 300-plus-yard passing games this season. Before getting banged up, Kelly’s solid play propelled the Argonauts to a four-game winning streak and assured them of hosting a playoff game with four weeks to play. The Boatmen have enjoyed success with Arbuckle before, the best example coming in their 2024 Grey Cup victory. Don't expect the Lions defence to approach it any differently.

Containing Lemon & The Argos Front

It’s always a no-brainer to point to the line of scrimmage as a key area to focus on. The much-improved Lions offensive line gets a big test this week. In only nine games since joining the squad, the ageless. Shawn Lemon has registered eight sacks and has helped get the Argonauts defence into a whole new gear. Ralph Hollie and Jonathan Kongbo have combined for 11 more sacks. Paul Charbonneau’s unit has made a big impact in the Lions’ recent hot streak and they’ll be counted on to be the more physical side on Saturday. Opening up holes for Zander Horvath and James Butler is a big ingredient to the winning recipe. The Lion offence is best-suited to being multi-dimensional.

The Argo X-Factor

Having a gamebreaker on special teams is always an advantage. For the Argonauts, that is dynamic return specialist Janarion Grant. The veteran speedster got them rolling in Winnipeg last week, returning a missed field goal to the end zone to open the scoring in their 30-28 victory. Grant is second in the CFL with 779 punt return yards and has three total majors in the return game. The Lions’ punt and kickoff units will be in for a big test, as the importance of limiting Toronto’s starting field position is paramount against an elite quarterback like Kelly and his offensive weapons.

What They’re Saying

"It's just his process, man. It stays the same. Whether it's up or down, he stays locked in. He comes to work every day; he's a great leader. Sometimes, it's how it goes: you don't start fast, you start slow, or you start fast and finish slow. He puts in the work every day, no matter what."- Keon Hatcher Sr. on Rourke's recent hot streak and how he conducts himself.

"We have an understanding of who we are and who we're becoming. It's all through our mistakes throughout the year, you know? We had some struggles, but we cleaned them up. We're spending extra time together at this pivotal time, so we understand how important these last few games are. We're excited. We want everybody at their best. We understand Chad is a great talent, but I mean, we have a lot of good players and we're ready to play our hearts out and win the game."- T.J. Lee on the recent turnaround and challenge of facing Kelly.

Extra Points

This weekend marks the 108th all-time regular season meeting between the Lions and Argonauts. Following a 26-12 defeat at home back on July 25, BC holds the all-time edge at 61-43-2.

Despite that record, the Lions are looking to snap a five-game losing streak in Toronto, the most recent victory coming in week three of the 2019 season. With Michael Reilly behind centre, the Lions escaped that game with a missed field goal rouge by Sergio Castillo with no time on the clock to prevail 18-17. The Argos are a perfect 4-0 in true home games this season.

The Lions will hit the field with pretty much the same lineup from last week, save for three changes: Defensive linemen Levi Bell and David Gusta (both in concussion protocol) will not dress. Shaun Peterson Jr. will be activated as a backup defensive end to Lorenzo Mauldin. Ronald Kent Jr. makes his return from suspension in a backup role behind Deontai Williams. Looking for a spark in the return game, Lawrence Woods III has been activated. The domino effect means newcomer defensive back Thomas Griffin heads back to the practice squad.

One week after his teammate Hatcher accomplished the feat, Justin McInnis enters this game just 18 receiving yards shy of 1,000 for the third consecutive season.

The Lions' offence enters this week leading the CFL with 428.5 net yards per game. During this 7-1 run over the last eight weeks, they are averaging a stellar 456.3 yards per game.

Zander watch: after being held out of the end zone last week, Zander Horvath remains with 19 touchdowns this season, three behind Cory Philpot’s franchise record and four shy of Milt Stegall’s all-time CFL mark.

Argos wide receiver and top game breaker Damonte Coxie has established a new career- high of 1,260 receiving yards. He scored on an 84-yard connection from Kelly in Winnipeg last week- the longest TD of his career- and now has five games of 100 or more receiving yards in 2026.
